The idea of it all is to protect us with censorship and regulation. Yes they are asking for internet providers and search engines to not show any results aimed at child abuse and adult rape, yes any new internet subscriptions, that includes changing your provider will automatically put an adult content filter unless you ask for it to be taken off and no doubt added to a list.
But is it a bad thing if it does protect people?
Ultimately the government is going for the cheapest and easiest option, and that is a blanket ban of everything.
It's not perfect, but then that's politics!
Really what they are asking is that internet providers and search engines take more responsibility for content.
As for whether or not it does affect people in a negative manner, well yes it does, but not every one. Only a small percentage, but it still has an effect and that's the worrying part. It is a knee jerk reaction, but until there is a better solution then, its the solution we are going to get.
Is it right to censor everything, effectively banning porn. Well i doubt that they will empty the top shelves of the local news agents or close down all the sex theaters and shops in the country.
I can see what they are doing and why they are doing it, but I also think that they are going the wrong way about it!

The twin arguments that can be made against it are

(1) Will it actually protect anyone? Most children I know are better than their parents at finding a way round an internet blockage.

(2) It is morally right for the Government to be imposing protections on people, instead of people deciding for themselves how much protection they want?

It's not called general discussion. It is called Xnxx Adult forum. It is not separate to picture and movie post, or personals, it just looks like that because of the way the forum is presented to the user. It is all the same forum. The fact that it uses the xnxx.com host name means that when the government decides to go ahead with its plan and filter all porn from the internet. This forum will go too. General discussion will not remain while pic and movie post is blocked, that's not how these things work.

And it is a pornographic forum due to the huge amount of pornography on it.
