That's all very well but still doesn't answer the question as to how they became naked in the first place! Saying that I have since read that Jay bird comes from Jail Bird/J-Bird, when a new inmate was stripped naked of his own clothes and had to walk the length of the prison naked, before he could put on his prison garb.
